Mineral Makeup Offers a New Look
mineral makeup What can mineral makeup do for you? Makeup is always an individual choice. We use makeup to create glamour and high style, to minimize skin imperfections and to achieve a healthy, natural look. Sometimes we are looking for anti-aging makeup for more youthful skin in both texture and appearance. The best makeup makes us feel great about the way we look.

Mineral makeup is often a 100% pure, natural makeup. Many women prefer its airy, light-weight feel and the look of mineral makeup. Mineral makeup is worth considering if you want a more youthful appearance and ingredients that will not settle in your fine lines, wrinkles, or pores. Mineral makeup provides remarkable coverage, glides on and stays put. It won't clog pores or irritate sensitive skin.

If you are new to mineral makeup, take advantage of the introductory mineral makeup kits, free trials or free samples to get acquainted with mineral makeup. Mineral makeup products often cost no more than other makeup. Only a very small amount of mineral makeup product is needed to achieve a finished look. Mineral makeup is available in a full range of natural makeup products, including foundation, concealers, powders, blush and bronzers. There are also mineral eye makeup, eye shadow and eye liner. You might be surprised to learn that mineral makeup is available in liquid and cream forms, too. Mineral makeup also comes as pressed powders and pressed foundation products. You can choose products with matte, chiffon and satin finishes, and a complete color range for all skin types. Mineral makeup powders can be blended at home to create custom colors, too.
What is Mineral Makeup?
mineral makeup Loose mineral cosmetics are the most natural cosmetic that a woman can wear. Mineral cosmetics are loose powders that have no fillers added to them. The powders are actually crushed minerals that have been extracted from the earth's surface. These minerals are already in all cosmetics, but with many added chemicals. The formulae are based on inert, naturally occurring minerals that are pulverized and blended to create a variety of mineral makeup products from foundation to eye shadow, eyeliner, blush and lip color.

Mineral makeup offers all the coverage and color without the chemicals, synthetics and dyes. The best mineral makeup is natural. It is completely free of irritants such as talc, bismuth oxychloride, dyes, parabens, mineral oil, salicylates, carmine, synthetic fragrance, methylparaben, propylparaben, petro-chemicals as well as many other questionable chemicals.
Features of Mineral Makeup
Coverage refers to the opacity of the makeup, or how well it conceals. There are four categories of mineral makeup coverage.
  1. Sheer coverage is transparent. It will minimize the contrast between discoloration and the rest of the skin tone, but will not hide discolorations.
  2. Light coverage will hide unevenness and slight blotches, but it will not cover freckles.
  3. Medium coverage can cover freckles, discolorations, blotches and red marks left by pimples.
  4. Full coverage is a corrective or camouflage application. It will hide birthmarks, vitiligo, strong pigmentation and scars.
High quality mineral makeup products contain no cheap fillers, talc, preservatives, parabens or bismuth oxychloride. They are also completely vegan. It may be important that the makeup you use has not been tested on animals. Perfectly colored mineral makeup will smooth away your fine lines, wrinkles, and discolorations. You'll achieve a flawless sheer matte complexion without the shine of bismuth or mica. Many women with sensitive skin choose mineral makeup to avoid the itching, burning, redness and inflammation caused by other makeup.
Ingredients in Mineral Makeup
mineral makeup The word "formulation" refers to the ingredients used, and how the makeup is compounded. Mineral makeup cosmetic ingredients are listed on each product package as required by the Food and Drug Administration, FDA.

The basic ingredients of mineral makeup are titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and serecite mica. These ingredients are also used in non-mineral makeup, too. These three ingredients are used so that the makeup covers well, adheres to your skin and reflects light. Zinc oxide can calm irritated skin and rosacea. Serecite mica is added to makeup foundation to reduce the luster of the makeup. If your makeup reflects less light, your skin pores and fine lines are not noticeable. Mineral makeup doesn't generally contain fillers.
Other Ingredients in Mineral Makeup
Magnesium stearate is added to provide uniform coverage, consistency, texture, opacity, and high adhesion. Magnesium is a naturally occurring metal and stearic acid is derived from vegetable oil.

Bismuth oxychloride brings luminosity and sheen to your makeup, Because bismuth oxychloride does not settle into pores and lines, it give your skin smooth texture and appearance. Some people notice a shiny look in makeup, which is attributed to this ingredient. Other people experience skin irritation from products with this ingredient. Most makeup sold as hypoallergenic does not include bismuth oxychloride.

Mineral makeup generally has no fillers except possibly talc and cornstarch. Talc is a mineral widely used in household products, also known as magnesium silicate hydroxide. With new refining processes that remove harmful trace minerals from talc, concerns about the use of talc on the skin may have been put to rest.

Rice powder gives the skin a shine-free porcelain finish.

A few mineral makeup products contain 100% pure silk. It is seldom used, but it provides relief from dry skin, windburn and sunburn. It leaves your face feeling silky smooth, too.

Another common ingredient is silica. Silica absorbs oil and helps makeup last longer. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by reflecting and scattering light. Silica is generally safe. However, there is some concern about a particular silica called amorphous hydrated silica, because it might contain crystalline quartz, a carcinogenic.

Kaolin clay, also called China clay, is, in fact, pure cosmetic grade clay. In a mineral makeup it adds coverage and oil absorption. It also helps the makeup last on your skin, and adds a creamy texture to the product.

You may also find boron nitride as an ingredient with anti-bacterial properties. Allantoin is added to cleanse away dead tissue. Iron oxide introduces a beautify color range in the product. Cosmetic grade iron oxides are processed to remove any harmful heavy metals.

Makeup colors can be created at the factory with the addition and blending of minerals: Iron Oxides for red, yellow, brown and black, Green Oxide, Ultramarine Blue, Ultramarine Pink, and Manganese Violet.
Is Mineral Makeup a Sunscreen?
Does mineral makeup protect you from the sun? Two of the important ingredients, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, do offer sun protection. They are also the ingredients used in sunscreen products. However, when it is applied, mineral makeup foundation is not thick enough to provide reliable sunscreen protection. Instead, it is recommended you use a moisturizer that includes a sunscreen. Apply the moisturizer underneath your mineral makeup foundation.
Is Mineral Makeup Safer?
Most mineral makeups are compounded without added dye, color or fragrance, the very things that cause irritation and allergic reaction in conventional makeup. If you have sensitive skin, you are more likely to have success with a makeup that excludes these ingredients. But not all mineral makeups are hypoallergenic. The list of product ingredients will guide you.
Cautions in Your Choice of Mineral Makeup
Mineral makeup products may contain bismuth-oxychloride, a by product of refined lead and copper. It is a low-cost filler and gives a pearly look to mineral makeup. Bismuth is known to cause itching and cystic acne. This ingredient may irritate acne and roseacea. Ultramarine colors are used to cool down the color of foundations, eye shadows and blushes. The FDA has not approved most ultramarine colors for use on lips. Avoid putting any makeup product with ultramarines on your lips.

Titanium dioxide is a natural mineral, safe to use on the skin. Some mineral products use nano titanium dioxide or micronized titanium dioxide, when the particles are so fine they could be absorbed by the skin. In this case they can become toxic and pathogenic. You may want to avoid products with micronized minerals.

Preservatives like methylparaben and tridosium EDTA, propylparaben and diasolidinyl urea are used to extend the shelf life of makeup products. They are not natural ingredients. Mineral makeup includes inert minerals that have a long shelf life. Adding oils, cornstarch, dyes and fragrances and other biological ingredients shortens the shelf life.

Some of the popular brands of mineral makeup are SheerCover Mineral Foundation, Young Blood, Loreal Bare Naturale Mineral Makeup, Neutrogena Mineral Makeup, PureMinerals, BareBeauty Mineral Makeup, Bare Minerals, Avon Mineral Makeup, Bare Escentuals Mineral Makeup, Natural Bare Mineral Makeup.
